Saint Guilhem le Désert

The village of Saint Guilhem le Désert

The medieval village of Saint Guilhem le Désert is built at the foot of impressive limestone cliffs: the Cirque de l'Infernet.

At the base of these high natural walls flows the Verdus. This crystal-clear stream flows through fields of olive trees before crossing Saint Guilhem le Desert to finally merge with the Gorges de l'Hérault.

This Grand Site National is one of France's most beautiful villages, and its abbey is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the French pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

3km downstream are the Pont du Diable and the Grotte de Clamouse, and an attractive 3-hour hiking trail (Rando Saint Guilhem) leaves from the village of Saint Guilhem le désert.
